Police release name in fatal crash

Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed the victim of Saturday's fatal rollover near White River is Garden River First Nation man Christopher Jones.

Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed the victim of Saturday's fatal rollover near White River is Garden River First Nation man Christopher Jones.

A number of social media tributes have been posted for Jones, 51, who was well known in stock car racing circles.

The following was posted to the Laird International Raceway Facebook page last night:

"The battles on the track in the Factory Stock division has translated to great friendships in the pits and away from the track. Chris was one of those guys that was responsible for that level of camaraderie. Chris is going to be missed by many of the drivers, teams, and fans out at Laird."

WAWA – On Saturday June 6, 2015 at 10:15 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 631 in the Cooper Township.

Officers attended the scene and confirmed there was one fatality.

The driver, Christopher H. JONES, 51 of Garden River First Nation, succumbed to his injuries at the scene as a result of this collision.

The collision was investigated by officers of the Hornepayne OPP Detachment with the assistance of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) and Reconstructionist (RECON).

The White River Fire Department were also on scene to assist.

The Highway has been re-opened to traffic in both directions.

Through their investigation police determined the driver who was operating a dump truck lost control which resulted in the vehicle leaving the roadway rolling over.
