Edie Suriano was pleased as punch Saturday during the 2nd annual Java Jamboree.

The marketing and promotions coordinator for the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre reported to SooToday.com that attendance was up compared to the 2013 inaugural event, and "everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was a great day."

The celebration of everything coffee featured cafes and roasters from the Sault Ste. Marie area, including Superior Coffee Roasters, St Joseph Island Coffee Roasters, Westport Bean Company, DISH Espresso Bar and Cafe, Cafe Natura, Q Cafe and Bakery, and Steeped Tea.

In addition to traditional brewing methods, a few vendors demonstrated some less conventional manual coffee-making techniques.

Q Cafe offered tasters pour over coffee, Superior Coffee Roasters showcased the coffee syphon process, and Cafe Natura highlighted the advantages of the AeroPress method.

"It's very hard to make a bad cup of coffee this way," said Shane Davey of Cafe Natura. "The most important thing is to use freshly ground quality beans."

"This produces a cleaner tasting cup of coffee. Something like a French press allows more of the oils into the final product. The AeroPress highlights more of the intended flavour of the coffee."

For anyone interested in trying the AeroPress method for themselves, Cafe Natura has them in stock.
