Male wanted for attempted murder in police custody

On Sunday October 20, 2013 at approximately 2:50 a.m., police were called to the Roosevelt Hotel at 306 Korah Road regarding an altercation involving gun shots in the bar area. 

During the altercation a male victim received a gunshot wound to the abdomen. 

As a result investigators with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service obtained a warrant of arrest for 35-year-old Alexander Benjamin McKenna.

On November 1, 2013 at 9 a.m., Alexander McKenna of Spadina Ave. attended at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services building and turned himself in to police.  

McKenna was arrested and charged with the following offences.

  • Attempt murder with a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm (x3)
  • Possession of weapon dangerous to the public
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Use firearm during commission of an offence
  • Breach of prohibition order
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Commission of an offence for a criminal organization

Alexander McKenna will remain in custody pending a bail hearing Monday, November 4, 2013.

We wish to remind the public that this was not a random act of violence, it was a targeted incident.
