It would appear this poor pooch's owner has been located.

An update posted to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society's Facebook page indicates that an investigation into the circumstances that lead to the dog's extremely poor health is under way.

Shelter staff promised regular updates on her condition as she spends this coming weekend at a veterinary clinic.

"Your response to her situation has been overwhelming to say the least and has resulted in the owner being found, donations of blankets, toys and food, and more than $1,500 in donations which will ensure she gets the veterinary care she so desperately needs," the statement reads.

Since she was left at the shelter with no information - not even a name - staff at the Humane Society have chosen to call her Karma.

At the time of writing, Karma's photo on the shelter's Facebook page had been shared 1,437 times and received 1,053 comments.

"We want you to know that NONE of this would have been possible without the help of our Facebook friends," the statement continues. "She has a rough road ahead of her and we ask that you keep Karma in your hearts - we want her to make it through this ordeal and live the life she so deserves. THANK YOU from Karma and the shelter staff!"

Staff at the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society are not having a pleasant start to the weekend.

This obviously frightened and under-nourished canine was found in the shelter's after hours drop-off cage this morning with no information, not even her name.

"We are absolutely sickened and are keeping our fingers crossed that there is no underlying medical condition and that all she needs is food and love," states a note left on the photo posted to the Humane Society's Facebook page.

Shelter staff are requesting anyone with information about who may have been this dog's owner to call the Humane Society at 705-949-3573.

Name suggestions are also welcome for this poor pooch.
