OPP respond to marine call

Be prepared when heading out on the water

LAKE SUPERIOR, ON - On Saturday, May 26, 2012, at approximately 6 p.m., OPP Marine Unit responded to a lost boater on Lake Superior near Red Rock.

The lone 49- year-old male went fishing in his 16-foot powerboat and became disoriented when his boat ran aground.

He then placed a call to police on his cell phone.

The US Coast Guard assisted with the search and located the boat south of Gros Cap.

OPP Marine Unit attended and escorted the boater back to the Gros Cap dock.
 
There were no injuries to the operator.

OPP remind boaters that it is not only important to have safety equipment on board but also navigational equipment and a marine VHF radio.

A cell phone may not always work on the open water.
