Paul Dalseg continues his legacy of philanthropy by donating $50,000 to the Inspiring Growth Campaign

SAULT STE. MARIE - An outstanding individual who has excelled in so many areas is one way to describe Paul Dalseg.

From an early age, Dalseg learned the importance of entrepreneurial skills and giving back to one’s community.

His service in the Second World War and the work he has done since to ensure that the sacrifices of his comrades will never be forgotten as well as his generosity in responding to many initiatives and charities locally, nationally and around the globe is truly remarkable.

A generous $50,000 gift from Mr. Dalseg towards the Inspiring Growth Campaign will help to advance education and enhance the learning experience of Sault College students.

A portion of the gift will provide an endowment which will fund an annual scholarship for a student enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at Sault College.

The “Eleanor Dalseg Memorial Scholarship” will be established to honour the memory of Mr. Dalseg’s late wife Eleanor, who was a dedicated nurse for many years in Dryden, Ontario, where they met.

The balance of the donation will be directed towards the expansion and modernization of the School of Health Sciences, which is part of the College’s multi-year campus redevelopment initiative.

“Educating our youth is vital to enriching the future of our community,” states Paul Dalseg. “The students who graduate from Sault College’s Health Sciences programs are going to be the health care providers that our community will rely on for generations to come. It is with great pride that I support this initiative.”

Dalseg has been an outstanding member of the business community and part of the fabric of Sault Ste. Marie for many years.

For his business acumen, his philanthropy and community service, Sault College will recognize Dalseg at its Convocation ceremony on May 25, awarding him an honorary Business Diploma.

“It is difficult to describe the full extent to which Paul and his late wife Eleanor have helped our city over the past several decades. On behalf of Sault College, we thank him for his gift and for the many contributions he has made to our community,” states Dr. Ron Common, president of Sault College. “Sault College’s reputation of providing a strong education in health sciences will continue to thrive because supporters like Mr. Dalseg know that their donations will have an impact.”

The Inspiring Growth Campaign is the most significant fundraising initiative the College has undertaken in its 47-year history.

With a $6 million goal, the campaign will contribute to the continued transformation of the campus into a premier post-secondary institution and support student scholarships and bursaries.

Mr. Dalseg formally presented the donation to Dr. Common and Jim Boniferro, chair of the Inspiring Growth Campaign.

The Inspiring Growth Campaign marks the most significant fundraising initiative in the College’s 47-year history.

The campaign centers around four cornerstones aimed at inspiring growth of students, programs, campus and community.

Since opening its doors, Sault College has been an integral part of the community, contributing significantly to the educational, social and economic well-being of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Region residents and businesses through the educating of its workforce.

Sault College is committed to helping students excel in post-secondary education but also in transforming their lives with a progressive, innovative learning experience.

Businesses and individuals are being asked to support this vision and consider a gift to the campaign.
