Appointment of Algoma District School Board principals and vice-principals for September 2012

APPOINTMENT AND PLACEMENT OF SECONDARY PRINCIPALS
 
Superintendent Joe Maurice reviewed the appointment and placement of secondary principals with the Board.

After nine years of leadership as the principal at White Pines CVS, Mark Zorzit was named secondary principal of the Algoma Education Connection, and the principal of the Adult and Continuing Education Program.

Joey Turco was appointed as secondary principal.

Over the past two years, Joey has been the acting principal of the Algoma Education Connection.

Joey was previously the vice-principal at Sir James Dunn CVS, acting principal at Sir James Dunn CVS, and vice-principal of Superior Heights CVS.

Joey has worked in the Algoma District School Board since 2000. 

He has provided leadership over the past few years in supporting at-risk students through the secondary alternative programs within the Algoma Education Connection, in the principal and vice-principal mentoring initiative, e-Learning, and in the amalgamation of Bawating CVS and Sir James Dunn CVS into Superior Heights CVS. 

In addition, Joey has worked closely with community partners to support student success. 

Joey has specialist qualifications in Physical and Health Education and Guidance.

Joey will assume the principal role at White Pines CVS in September 2012.
 
APPOINTMENT OF SECONDARY VICE-PRINCIPALS

The appointment of three secondary vice-principals was approved by the Board.

Jim Belsito

For the past semester and on other occasions, Jim has been the acting vice-principal of Central Algoma Secondary School. 

Jim began his teaching career in the Central Algoma area in 1991.

He has provided leadership in technology education, computer technology, and cross-curricular literacy within the Board.

Jim has also worked in partnership with local post-secondary institutions such as Sault College.

Jim has a Master of Business Administration and specialist qualifications in Technological Studies.

Jim has been the head of the Technological Studies Department at Central Algoma Secondary School.

Jim will assume the role of vice-principal effective September 2012 at a secondary school in the Sault-Central area to be assigned in the next two weeks.

Grant Kahtava

Over the past two years, Grant has been the acting vice-principal at Superior Heights CVS. 

Grant has worked in the Algoma District School Board since 1991.

He has provided leadership in technology education, computer technology, special education, Project ABCD, Professional Learning Communities, and in the amalgamation of Bawating and Sir James Dunn into Superior Heights CVS.

Grant has specialist qualifications in Technological Studies and Special Education.

Grant has been the head of the Technological Studies Department at Sir James Dunn CVS and Superior Heights CVS.

Grant will assume the role of vice-principal effective September 2012 at a secondary school in the Sault-Central area to be assigned in the next two weeks.

Jan Marrelli

Over the past year, Jan has been the acting vice-principal at White Pines CVS.

Jan has worked in the Algoma District School Board since1998.

She has provided both Board-wide and provincial level leadership in student success activities and secondary program, including work with literacy, numeracy, pathways, and supporting at-risk students. 

Jan has been instrumental in our Board’s work with the Specialist High Skills Majors programs and the School-College Work Initiative (SCWI). 

She has also provided instructional leadership in assessment and evaluation, differentiated instruction, and in the use of technology and data. 

Jan has specialist qualifications in Business Education and Guidance. 

Jan will assume the role of vice-principal effective September 2012 at a secondary school in the Sault-Central area to be assigned in the next two weeks.

APPOINTMENT OF ELEMENTARY VICE-PRINCIPALS

Superintendent Lucia Reece reviewed the appointment and placement of elementary vice-principals with the Board.

Patricia Aelick

Patti began with ADSB in 2002 as an occasional and has worked at a variety of schools both in the classroom and as a Primary Intervention teacher and Special Education Resource teacher.

Mrs. Aelick has specialist qualifications in reading and primary education.

She began her administrative career in 2011-2012 as acting vice-principal at Anna McCrea P.S., and has now been appointed as a vice-principal starting in September 2012 in an elementary school in the Sault-Central area to be assigned in the next two weeks.

Blythe Servant

Blythe began her career in ADSB in 1993 as an occasional teacher and has held a variety of positions in both the classroom and within special education classes. 

Mrs. Servant holds specialist qualifications in special education and primary education, as well as additional qualifications in Kindergarten.

Most recently, has been a strong advocate of the Early Learning Kindergarten Program and has provided leadership and support to the Early Learning Program in ADSB. 

Mrs. Servant will begin her role as acting vice-principal in September 2012 in an elementary school in the Sault-Central area to be assigned in the next two weeks.
