Sherry Walsh students win big at American Dance Awards
Three hundred students and parents attended the American Dance Awards in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Every level won overall high trophies competing with top studios from the Michigan area, Windsor and Cambridge, Ontario.
Andrew Stuetz won Senior Male Dancer of the Year for Detroit qualifying him to attend the Nationals in Florida in July.
His award winning self choreographed solo “Dancing Through My Years” won him the highest overall senior solo trophy and solo choreography award.
Eighteen-year-old Ross Aitken followed closely winning first runner-up Male Dancer of the Year with his solo “The Great Escape.”
He also received the Young Choreographers award for his self choreographed duet with Brooke Doble.
Dana Morrison and Devon Shearsby also shared a Young Choreographers award for their acro group “Breaking Ballet.”
Megan Morgenstern was second runner-up to the Mini Dancer of the Year for her solo “Just Be Free” along with nine-year-old Lilly Alaspa who placed fourth runner-up to the title for Mini Dancer of the Year with her lyrical solo “Butterfly Kisses”.
First runner-up Junior Male Dancer of the Year was won by Liam Morrasut for his solo “Cool.”
Sherry Walsh received a captivating choreography award for her Junior ballet line “Fire In Our Hearts” which also won an overall high for Junior groups.
Christina Tucci and Kaitlin Schmiedendorf both won Diamond Choreography Awards for their duets “Marry You” with Sydney Czop and Jerritt Infanti and “This Years Love” with Breanne Seaton and Andrew Stuetz.
Both duets won overall high scores.
Other duet/Trios winning top overall awards were Lilly Alaspa and Liam Morassut for “Pretty Young Thing.”
Brooke Doble and ross Aitken for “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and trio “Spare Change” with Jerritt Infanti, Liam Morassut and Ben Jaremko.
Special Congratulations to our youngest competitive level who were finalists in the Fever 100 degree dance off and came first overall high score winner in Auburn Hills for their ballet group “One Fine Day.”

Pre Juniors - Lazenburg Polka - Ballet
Minis - Pretty Girls-jazz, Luigini-Ballet and Love - Tap
Primary - One Fine Day
Parttime - Like A Lady - first overall high score
All of the award-winning routines maybe seen at Dance Extravaganza XXXII on May 26 and 27 at Kiwanis Theatre Centre 2 p.m. curtain time.
To celebrate the 100th Centennial year of our city, Sherry is offering free dance classes to all children in the community ages 2.5 years to 16 years in all dance forms Hip Hop, Jazz , Tap and Ballet for the entire month of June.
