Morning encounter on Second Line West (4 photos)

SooToday.com has received the following note and photos shown from loyal reader Jenn McGonegal who lives on Second Line West:

If you need to get a cat out of a tree, call the fire department; if it’s a bear, you call the SSM police department.

On my way to work today, I received a call from my daughters saying that our basset hound had chased three baby bears up our tree.

Figuring the mama may be close by, I told my girls to wait in the house until I got home.

I called the police and headed home to find three newborn cubs in our small maple tree right beside our deck and our motherly dog howling at them.

These three have been spotted throughout the weekend by themselves.

A large bear was found dead in the trees behind our house on Sunday, which was probably their mother.

With the assistance of our brave neighbours, Tim and Bob, a few long pieces of wood, a couple of fishing nets, a dog cage and a trampoline, Officer Biocci and Officer King and I manage to get them out and into a cage.

The starving, scared little guys got some apples to pacify them on their way to the Spuce Haven Zoo.

I would like to thank all involved in saving these guys.

Hopefully, they will have a long and happy life at the zoo.
