We went to Grand Rapids. Returned a living dead girl (36 photos)

Megadeth and Rob Zombie may be billed as co-headliners on their current U.S. tour, but after catching the stop this past weekend at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, SooToday.com has little doubt who dominates that tour stage.

While Dave Mustaine and the rest of Megadeth - Shawn Drover (drums), Chris Broderick (guitar), and David Ellefson (bass) - roared through a solid set of unyielding thrash metal, poor sound quality rendered Mustaine virtually inaudible and left fans grumbling.

There were definitely fan highlights from the Megadeth set, including Hangar 18, Symphony of Destruction, and A Toute le Monde which featured Cristina Scabbia from the night's goth metal opening band, Lacuna Coil.

But from the moment the King Kong curtain dropped and a masked Rob Zombie emerged from his giant flaming robot, the night belonged to him and his band of horror heavyweights - John 5 (guitar), Piggy D (bass), and Ginger Fish (drums).

Zombie's theatrics, props and sets, which included fireworks and a variety of menacing robots, propelled his performance from "concert" to "production" despite the relatively small venue size.

Spectacle aside, the band was flawless and Zombie's punchy antics and drive were almost exhausting to behold.

It was a show worthy of the five-hour drive.

And then some.
