SAH volunteers… They’re priceless!

This week marks National Volunteer Week, a time to honor the millions of volunteers who donate their time, talent and energy to helping others.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) benefits from the generosity of its more than 400 volunteers who contributed over 63,000 hours of their time this past year.

SAH volunteers are people of all ages, cultures and walks of life - homemakers, students, retirees and others - with the common desire to make a difference in their community and in their own lives.

The hospital is fortunate to also have a number of volunteers from the Canadian Cancer Society and the Victorian Order of Nurses.

Volunteer assignments range from providing patient and visitor directions at the Information Desk to assisting patients with their discharge.

In fact, the Board of Directors of SAH is comprised completely of volunteers who contribute countless hours of their experience and expertise, demonstrating that volunteers are involved at every level of the organization.

Among their many roles at SAH, volunteers are involved in fundraising on behalf of the hospital.

The Volunteer Association raises funds through the Gift Shop, the sale of lottery tickets and other events.

Last April, the Association made its final installment on a $500,000 contribution toward the construction of the new hospital, and this past year, they contributed an additional $63,600 in support of SAH.

“National Volunteer Week is a perfect time to thank our dedicated volunteers for their hard work, loyalty, compassion and generosity,” says Ron Gagnon, SAH President and CEO. “Their contributions are far reaching, supporting our physicians, staff, inpatients and everyone who walks through our doors each and every day.”
