The Algoma Workforce Investment Committee (AWIC) appoints new executive director

The Algoma Workforce Investment Committee (AWIC) is pleased to announce that Jonathan Coulman has been appointed to the position of executive director.

In this capacity, Jonathan will be responsible leading the organization as it fulfills its mandate to identify workforce issues that affect communities in the Algoma District and provide solutions to these issues by engaging local stakeholders and partners.

Jonathan brings with him more than 15 years of experience in senior-level management positions in both the public and private sectors.

Prior to joining AWIC, Jonathan was the marketing and communication manager at the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre where he was responsible all marketing activities along with managing events such as ARTIE and Soo Sustainable.

Previous to that he worked at Northern Credit Union in Sault Ste. Marie and has also held management positions with the Canadian Medical Association and Canadian Tourism Commission in Ottawa as well as several high-tech companies based out of Toronto, Ontario.

“AWIC is in a period of transition and we feel that Jonathan brings a fresh perspective to the organization,” says Dan Friyia, chairman of the AWIC Board of Directors. “As a board we look forward to working with Jonathan as we tackle new initiatives.”

“Our local labour market needs are constantly evolving and communities have to stay on top of these needs to stay competitive and provide employment opportunities,” says Jonathan. “I feel that AWIC has a very important role to fill in the communities we serve and I am very excited to be a part of it.”

AWIC is one of 25 Workforce Planning Boards across Ontario that are funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

AWIC’S mission is to identify workforce issues that affect communities in the Algoma District and to provide solutions to these issues by engaging local stakeholders and partners.

The organization’s role is to provide a link between job seekers, employers and skills development services.
