Sometimes size matters

On Friday the 13th, SooToday.com ran our usual police beat story.

It contained a single line about a television stolen from Cedar St.

We had no idea there was such a big back story behind it.

The police said the television was 30 inches.

It was 55 inches.

And, the young man whom the television was stolen from had just moved into his apartment.

He hadn't had time to set up tenants insurance, yet.

So, the thieves who made off with his Phillips LCD flat screen 55 inch (not 30 inch) television in a daring daylight robbery last Thursday afternoon made off with something he has been working hard to pay for.

The first major purchase of his life.

And he's still paying for it.

He actually still has more than a few payments left on it.

So, if you'd like to make a quick couple hundred dollars or maybe even as much as $2,000, check around for mysteriously new and unexplained appearing 55 inch Phillips televisions in your neighbourhood and give Crimestoppers a call at 705-942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

You can also submit an e-tip from the Crime Stoppers web site at www.saultcrimestoppers.com or text keyword SSM with your tip to 274637.

Just in case that's not enough to convince you to look for really big televisions that showed up in someone's bedroom or living room over the weekend, read this impassioned plea from the television owner's mom.

*************************
I just wanted to say to the two people who broke into my son's home and stole his 55 inch TV that my son has worked since he was 12 years old - doing odd jobs, working for Sault This Week etc.

He has bought everything he has with his own hard working money.

For you to break into his home and violate his family like that is unbelievable.

One day someone will do the exact same thing to you and you will know what it feels like.

My son had not finished paying for this tv and now has to continue to make payments for something he does not have.

Shame on you.

Someone does know who did this.

Please do the right thing and return his TV no questions asked.

We are also offering a reward for the return of the TV or information on who did it.

Everyday, people are letting us know more and I do hope that his tv is returned.

If you know who did this please email the following address: [email protected]

I know there are honest and decent people living in the Sault.

Thanks.
