An all-star cast and a lot of vintage vehicles invaded Sault Ste. Marie just over a year ago as director Nathan Morlando shot a healthy portion of Edwin Boyd, his first full-length feature.

The film earned Morlando a big thumbs up at the most recent Toronto International Film Festival when he received the TIFF jury prize for Best Canadian First Feature.

Now, it's the cast and crew that are in the spotlight.

Announced yesterday by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, Edwin Boyd has been nominated for five Genie Awards.

Scott Speedman, who stars as Boyd in the film, has been nominated for best performance by an actor in a leading role, Kevin Durand received a nod for best performance by an actor in a supporting role, and Charlotte Sullivan was nominated for best performance by an actress in a supporting role.

Additional Edwin Boyd Genie Award nominations include Aidan Leroux and Rob Hepburn for achievement in art direction, and Tom Turnbull, Ian Britton, Robert Crowther and Tony Cybulski for achievement in visual effects.

Held at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto on Thursday, March 8, the 32nd annual Genie Awards will broadcast live on CBC Television at 8 p.m.
