George Leach Centre celebrates Gold Club Members

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (January 17, 2012) - The George Leach Centre (GLC) at Algoma University celebrated the 80th birthday of longtime member Ivan Davey in style yesterday, by giving him and fellow member Bob Gillgrass lifetime memberships to the centre as GLC Gold Club Members.

The GLC announced its Gold Club Membership last summer, and plans host events twice a year to recognize these exceptional members.

"Our Gold Club Members set such a great example to the GLC community," said Algoma University President Dr. Richard Myers. "If you frequent the GLC, you'll know that they're here regularly - their commitment to their health and well-being is inspiring."

The members, including Ivan Davey and Bob Gillgrass, were invited to the GLC for coffee and muffins put on by the staff.

Each Gold Club Member was given a t-shirt to recognize their status.

"The Gold Club at the George Leach Centre has been a great experience so far," says Davey. "Being able to still be active in my 80s is extremely satisfying. The GLC is the best facility in town. I enjoy everything about it, especially riding the bicycle and using the weight room."

Included in the Gold Club Membership is access to all the facility's amenities, including indoor and outdoor tennis, an indoor walking track, saunas, cardio room, weight equipment and aerobics classes.

The only cost is a yearly fee of $40 for the Expansion Trust Fund, a collection of capital raised from every membership which contributes to future plans to expand the facility and its services for the entire Algoma University and Sault Ste. Marie community.

Community members interested in the Gold Club Membership are encouraged to contact the George Leach Centre at Algoma University by calling 705-949-2301, ext. 4500 or visiting this website.
