For Rita Adams, lifelong learning is more than a slogan.

After 30 years of university studies, after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts studies, after earning another in a combined concentration of English and history, and having completed most of the requirements for a third degree in music, Adams received this year's Honorary Member of Algoma University College Award.

Presented by AUC's Senate, the award was bestowed Saturday as 165 students graduate at the university's largest-ever convocation.

Here's what the university said about Adams:

"This year, the AUC Senate's Honorary Member of Algoma University College Award is being given to Mrs. Rita Adams. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed distinctive and distinguished service to Algoma University College as well as the community. Selected by AUC faculty, Adams speaks proudly of the quality of education at Algoma University College, and has been a dedicated supporter of AUC theatre and musical events, often volunteering her time and charm. As a university student for 30 years, her long and loyal association with the university is remarkable. Two degrees and almost a third later, Rita refuses to adopt the label alumnus. 'I just keep coming back,' says Adams. 'I’ll never really be done!' .... Adams displays a genuine and passionate love of education. She has been an inspiration to her fellow students and to faculty who have been fortunate to have her in their classes."
