VIDEO: Muio's landmark sign removed from restaurant

Work crew showed up Tuesday afternoon to remove well-known sign from outside the historic building, which will soon be home to a new restaurant serving plant-based, South Asian dishes

For people who don't like change, Tuesday was definitely tough.

Just as news broke that the Sault's YMCA is closing all its programs after 125 years, a crew from Classic Signs Inc. showed up at the old Muio's restaurant to remove the historic sign that hung for decades outside the downtown building.

As SooToday reported in February, the landmark building will soon be home to a new restaurant serving plant-based, South Asian dishes. The tenants, Surendra Kumar Bansal and Oyunbileg Chuluunbazar, plan to open under the name Ojas.

The building was sold last June.

Where is the sign going? Across the street to the Sault Ste. Marie Museum.

"That sign / location has a great amount of nostalgia for the Sault and nothing makes us happier than knowing that it will be preserved properly," says a Facebook post from Classic Signs. "We would also like to wish Ojas luck as they are preparing to open soon."
