Sault Ste. Marie native Michael Amadio will be taking on an even bigger role as he returns to the Ontario Hockey League’s North Bay Battalion this week.

The 19-year-old was named the captain of the Battalion on Thursday, 24 hours ahead of its season opener tonight against the Peterborough Petes.

“It was an unbelievable feeling and an honour to be names captain,” Amadio said in a team-issued release. “I’m looking forward to a great year.”

Amadio, a draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings, has played in 195 career games in three seasons with the team and has posted 42 goals and 128 points.

The 2014-15 season was a career-year for the veteran forward as Amadio posted 24 goals and 71 points in 68 games one season ago.

Amadio, a third round NHL draft pick in 2014, was returned to the Battalion by the Kings on Wednesday.

Amadio was selected by the Battalion in the second round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.

“He’s turned himself into a good player,” said Battalion Director of Hockey Operations and Coach Stan Butler. “He’s definitely one of our top guys.”
