SMFL crowns champions

The Sault Minor Football League crowned its three division champions on Sunday. In the Tim Horton’s Division the Bioforest Wolverines beat the Sports Gold Steelers 36-28 on a late touchdown by Cooper Foster.

In the Tim Horton’s Division the Bioforest Wolverines beat the Sports Gold Steelers 36-28 on a late touchdown by Cooper Foster.

Foster carried the ball nine times for 211 yards and three touchdowns for Bioforest while also catching three passes for 34 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bioforest quarterback Jaiden Trudeau completed both touchdown passes to Foster while also running for 116 yards on seven carries. Defensively, Landon Trecartin had 15 tackles.

Stephanie Pagnotta ran for 116 yards and a touchdown for Sports Gold while quarterback Reese Martin added 111 yards rushing and a touchdown. Jarrett Dewar and Aidan Robinson also had touchdowns for Sports Gold. Ethan Carchidi led the Sports Gold defence with six tackles.

In the Little Caesar’s Division Adrian Gioia rand for 105 yards on 11 carries and a pair of touchdowns as the Little Caesar’s Gladiators beat the Firefighters 28-6.

Little Caesar’s quarterback Roman Vecchio ran the ball 10 times for 101 yards while Wyatt McLachlan had six tackles and a pair of interceptions defensively. McLachlan returned on of the interceptions back for a touchdown.

For the Firefighters Michael Nicoletta ran the ball 11 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Brandon Vecchio had 16 tackles for the Firefighters.

In the Bantam Division final, Community First beat Wine Barrel 50-22.

Tevin Daybutch had 152 yards and three touchdowns on six carries for Community First while Elias Provenzano had six carries for 37 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Forsyth caught a pair of touchdown passes, both from Nick Pagnotta.

Defensively, Caleb Patteri had 14 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception and also ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

For Wine Barrel, Carter Harrison had 178 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
