Sault Ringette U-14 Icehawks are 'out of this world' at the Provincial Ringette Championships in Newmarket

It’s been 20 years since the Sault Ringette Club has been represented in the Ontario Ringette U14 Provincial Championships, but that drought came to an end last week in Newmarket!

The host association of the 2015 Provincial Ringette Championships, held March 19 – 22, has called this year’s competition provincials "out of this world," which is precisely how the tween girls have played this 2014/15 season.

Indeed, the girls have been out of this world at this week’s championships with an impressive record of three wins and one loss, with two games to be played Saturday, March 21.

This year’s tween team began the season in London, ON in early November 2014 with a 1-3-0 record, which did not accurately represent the hard work and effort on display; the girls surrendered three out of four games by the slimmest of margins.

Next was the Mississauga, ON “must” tournament in early December 2014, where the girls found better bounces to complement their solid work ethic and a 3-0-1 Round Robin record.

The girls did not disappoint in the tournament playoffs, securing a gold medal for the ride home.

A mid-January journey to Burlington, ON was not as successful as the Mississauga experience, however, the Ice Hawks worked hard to improve at the final qualifying tournament of the season in Ayr, ON last month.

A 3-0-1 record brought the girls back to their winning ways to clinch a berth at the Provincial Ringette Championships!

Defence has been the name of the game and the season’s 9-5-2 record says it all, with four losses by only one goal.

With Alyssa Desgagne in net and the defensive pairings of Isabelle Baril, Kaitlyn Stocks and Kayla Simms with Avy Bowman the Ice Hawks have been in great shape for the Newmarket Provincials.

The offence is also deep, with three rotating forward lines of Zoey Campbell with Shelbey Walker and Megan Rogozynski, Victoria Young centering Jenna Vecchio and Darienne See and Mackenzie Wood-Salomon flanked by Shelby Campbell and Allison Caldwell-Pratt.

Dedicated coaches Bruce Graham, Debbie Desgagne, Carl Desgagne, Marc Baril and Sara Jones have work tirelessly this season, instilling the drive and skills needed to compete at the Provincial A level.

Go get ‘em girls! Go Ice Hawks!
