Brad Jacobs’ bid to win his first grand slam event of the season came to an end on Saturday night.

Playing in the fourth of five Grand Slam of Curling events, the Elite 10, in Fort McMurray, Alta., Team Jacobs lost in the semi-final to Niklas Edin of Sweden in the match-play style tournament. Edin finished the game one-up.

Edin, who beat Reid Carruthers to get into the semi-final, will face Mike McEwen in the final after McEwen beat Kevin Koe in the other semi-final.

Jacobs advanced to the semi-final thanks to a 3-1 round robin record and second place finish in the overall standings of the 10-team event.

The tournament uses match play rules that see teams compete to win the most ends in each game.  In order to win an end, teams need to score two points if they have the hammer or steal a single point if they don’t have the hammer. In the case of a blanked end, the points don’t carry over and the hammer switches.
