Greyhounds earn recognition

The Ontario Hockey League announced the results of the league’s annual coaches poll on Wednesday and the Soo Greyhounds had nine players recognized in various categories.

The Ontario Hockey League announced the results of the league’s annual coaches poll on Wednesday and the Soo Greyhounds had nine players recognized in various categories.

The Greyhounds ha nine players recognized in 11 categories in the poll, including Jean Dupuy and Anthony DeAngelo, who were recognized in multiple categories.

The poll sees coaches vote on the top three players in 20 categories within their own conference and the coaches are not allowed to vote for players on their own team.

Greyhounds recognized in the poll included:

  • Keigan Goetz – third in hardest worker
  • Anthony DeAngelo – third in best playmaker, first in best offensive defenceman
  • Zach Senyshyn – third in best skater
  • Sergey Tolchinsky – second in best stickhandler
  • Nick Ritchie – second in best body checker
  • Jean Dupuy – third in best defensive forward, first in best penalty killer
  • Darnell Nurse – first in best defensive defenceman
  • Brandon Halverson – tied for first with Kitchener’s Jake Paterson in best puckhandling goalie
  • Justin Bailey – third in best shootout shooter

Oshawa Generals forward Cole Cassels was recognized in five different categories in the Eastern Conference, finishing second in voting in the smartest player, hardest worker, best playmaker, best on faceoffs and best defensive forward categories.

The Generals as a team were represented in 13 of the 20 categories while the Erie Otters led all teams with representation in 15 categories.
