The second-year wrestler won Algoma’s first medal in Canadian Interuniversity Sport competition on Saturday at the national wrestling championship in Edmonton, Alta.

Doroodian finished second, winning a silver medal in the process.

Doroodian advanced to the final after a 2-0 record in the round robin which included a victory by pin over top-seeded Temilope Ogunjim of the University of Calgary.

Doroodian was defeated in the final by Jessica Brouliette of Brock University. Brouiliette entered the match as the defending national champion.

“I’m very happy to have won the silver medal,” Doroodian said in a release, “but obviously I had the gold medal in my sights. I wrestled a good tournament but know there are things I can work on over the summer. Next year I plan on standing on the top of the podium.”
