SEARCHMONT SKI RESORT

The temperature was frigid and the added wind chill logged some of the coldest days of the season. 

But it did not stop these athletes from giving it their all at the Mealey Classic Northern Ontario Divisional Championships this weekend at Searchmont Ski Resort.

It was an incredible three days that brought over one hundred skiers from all over the province to compete in the alpine downhill ski race.  

The Searchmont Ski Runners proudly claimed 32 medals overall. 

Women’s U18 Avery Marcoux and Men’s U16 Jacques Tiessen proving that hard work and home-hill knowledge pay off with 1st place finishes in all of their respective races.    

The Nori brothers, Conrad and Austin are definitely no strangers to the podium and this weekend was no exception.  

Grace Kreps, Chianti Brown, Tayte Nowak, Abigail Wolfe, Alexis Mezzomo, Emma Hendrie, Olivia Babic, Joel Baudette and Brendan Elgie all contributing to the Ski Runners epic divisional championship wins.  

Men’s U12 Maxwell Hong from North Bay and U14 Moro Bamber from Georgian Peaks as well as U14 Aaron Puskas from NAC leaving rightful marks both on the hill and in the minds of all who braved the chilling cold to cheer them on.  

Searchmont Resort and the Searchmont Ski Runners were honored to once again host the Mealey Classic Northern Ontario Divisional Race. 

It was a great opportunity to bring ski athletes from far and wide to experience some incredible and challenging terrain.

This year, Searchmont will also be hosting the Provincial Championships taking place March 13 to 17.  

If this weekend was any indication, we’re in for an exciting and memorable competition. 

Let’s just hope for warmer temperatures.
