Eight local Sault Ste. Marie Figure Skaters Qualify to Represent Northern Ontario at the Skate Ontario Championships in Brampton, March 14 -15 Lake Superior Figure Skating Club had another impressive showing this weekend where they competed at the ESSAR Centre in the 2015 Festival of Stars Event.
 
This event identifies the top figure skaters from across Northern Ontario who are vying for a spot in the 2015 Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in March. Kerry Bain, Director of Skating and Competitive Coach for the LSFSC was very pleased with the results.
 
Having eight skaters represent Lake Superior at Provincials is a strong showing for our club.
 
Our competitive team is growing, I am very proud of our team’s success and their accomplishments made so far this season!
 
Bain also attributes the increasing success the club is experiencing to a strong coaching network.
 
“Our coaches work as a team, we all have our strengths and we work together to ensure all of our athletes benefit! We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of coaches working with our skaters.”
 
Eight skaters from the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club will advance to the Provincial Championships: Cameron Smith – 2nd Junior Silver Ladies Breanne Derochie 2nd Juvenile Ladies U 14 Jordan Derochie 1st Juvenile Men U14 Breanne and Jordie will also compete provincially in the Pairs Pre-Juvenile Event Emilie Vezina – 2 nd Juvenile Ladies U11 Lilia Pelletier 3rd – Pre-Juvenile Ladies U11 Olivia Nero 2nd Star 5 Ladies U13 Yvonne Barnes - 2 nd Star 5 Ladies U10 Cassie Grenier 3rd Star 5 Ladies U10 3 other skaters are currently holding alternate positions: Laura Baek – 5 th Pre-Juvenile Ladies U14 Hannah Martin – 5 th Pre-Juvenile Ladies U11 Cameron Smith – Bronze Triathalon President of the Club, Asima Vezina indicated that the Board is very proud of all their skaters and their coaching team.
 
“The 2014-2015 season has featured many individual and team accomplishments and this is due to the commitment and dedication of our skaters, coaches and families. I think part of our success is the teamwork between our parents, skaters and coaches, they all contribute in some way to helping our skaters have fun and also be the best they can be! Way to go LSFSC!”
