Ten straight for the Thunderbirds

The Soo Thunderbirds extended their winning streak to ten games on Friday night. On the road, the Thunderbirds picked up a 6-3 win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

On the road, the Thunderbirds picked up a 6-3 win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

The Thunderbirds got goals from six different players in the win, including a goal and an assist each from Joey Ogden and Anthony Miller.

Brett Jeffries, Jaren Bellini, Joey Miller and Matt Pinder also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Goaltender Mario Culina made 24 saves for the Thunderbirds.

Nathan Campbell had a goal and an assist for Elliot Lake in the loss while Cole Helper set up a pair of goals. Alec MacKenzie and Spencer MacLean also scored for Elliot Lake in the loss. Wildcats goaltender A.J. Smith stopped 24 shots.

With the win, the Thunderbirds improve to 12-2-0-0, good for 24 points and a two-point lead over the Sudbury Nickel Barons for top spot in the NOJHL’s West Division. The Thunderbirds also have a game in hand on Sudbury.

Elliot Lake drops to 9-4-0-0 with the loss.

In other action around the NOJHL on Friday, the Powassan Voodoos picked up a 4-1 win on home ice over the Abitibi Eskimos while the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners blanked the Mattawa Blackhawks 13-0.
