PRESS RELEASE

SOO MINOR BASEBALL

*************************
The Midget Division had its share a great baseball this week. Monday night's game between the O'Sullivan Funeral Home Angels and Allstate Expos, a rarely-seen triple play unfolded in the fifth inning. Leading 4-1 with runners on first and third, an Expo batter hit a grounder to second baseman Kaleb Drodge, who took the force at second, gunned the ball to the catcher Jarrod Sachro who tagged the runner out at home then he threw back to second to take the batter trying to take second. The 4-2-4 triple play sparked the Angels bats and they tied it up in the bottom half of the fifth. That's as close they could come however. In the top of the seventh Expos catcher Liam Riley crushed a two-out pitch to the wall for a stand up double, scoring Conner Henderson all the way from first for the go-ahead run. Expos closer Dana Lesage shut the Angels down for the final two innings for the 5-4 win. Jarrod Sachro also pitched two scoreless innings and had two of the Angel runs batted in.

On Wednesday, Joe MacLean and Zach Duchene combined for a no-hitter against the Elks 341 Bantam Black Sox. Starter Joe MacLean threw five strong innings and Zack Duchene shut the Sox down in the final two for an 11-0 shutout. Beau Nolan and Noah Reynolds had three stolen bases, scored and had two RBI’s for the Angels. In the late game of the double header, the Expos and Sox played to 10-10 draw.  In the top half of the seventh, Jordan Trudeau scorched a triple to centre field to score Justin Sharp from third and tie the game at 10. That's as close as they could come however. Conner Henderson blanked the Sox in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the single point.

The Bantam Division had a practice week as a lot of the payers were at graduations. Activity will pick up in July as we are hoping to host house league teams from Wawa and Sault, Michigan for some weekend games. We still have some room in Bantam for a player or two. In PeeWee, Holy Cow's Ice Cream and Marconi Club sit at the top of the four-team division, each with only one loss.

Mosquito has SMBA's only undefeated team left. Sault Airport sits in first with a perfect 6-0 record. One game separates Red Star, Flake Board, Lion's Club and Dawson and Keenen for second place. The Mosquito division begins its midseason tournament next weekend with the feature games being played on World Cars Field. World Cars Complex is a new sponsor this year stepping up to sponsor an entire field on our complex.

Rookie Ball and T-Ball are in full swing with games being played Mon-Thursday every week. Rookie Ball will also be starting their mid-season tournament next weekend.

The schedule will be posted on our website, www.sooball.com.
