Wolves double up Greyhounds in makeup game

A busy week of action  kicked off for the Soo Greyhounds on the road as they ended a string of four-straight away from the Essar Centre on Tuesday night in Sudbury.

The Greyhounds were in Sudbury to make up the previously postponed match between the two clubs from Sept. 20. That night, fog forced the postponement of the season opener for the Greyhounds and Wolves, which was finally put into the books on Tuesday night.

The Wolves used a pair of goals from Dominik Kubalik to pick up a 4-2 win over the Greyhounds in the makeup game.

Kubalik erased a 2-2 tie with just over four minutes remaining in the second period and scored an insurance goal on the power play 2:53 into the third period to lift the Wolves to the victory.

Michael Bunting had a goal and an assist in the loss for the Greyhounds while David Miller chipped in with a goal. Matt Murray stopped 31 Sudbury shots in the loss.

Jacob Harris and Connor Crisp scored for the Wolves. Franky Palazzese stopped 34 shots in the win.

Greyhounds coach Sheldon Keefe was unavailable for comment following Tuesday’s loss.

The Wolves improve to 16-9-3-3 with the win and have now won six-straight games to move into top spot in the OHL’s Central Division. The win gives the Wolves 38 points and a three-point cushion over the second-place Barrie Colts and they sit seven points up on the third-place North Bay Battalion.

The loss drops the Greyhounds record to 21-7-0-3 as they remain in top spot in the West Division and second in the OHL’s Western Conference.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday night as they face another Central Division team when they host the North Bay Battalion at the Essar Centre. Puck drop on Wednesday is set for 7:07 p.m. as the Greyhounds open up a three-game homestand.
