OHL Roundup: Two series conclude on Wednesday night

In Kingston, Mitchell Theoret had two goals and two assists as the Barrie Colts completed a sweep of the Kingston Frontenacs thanks to an 8-2 win. Mark Scheifele added a goal and two assists for the Colts in the win. Andreas Athanasiou added a pair of goals for the Colts. Erik Bradford, Cody Brown and Aaron Ekblad also scored in the win. Colts goaltender Mathias Niederberger stopped 35 shots. Darcy Greenaway scored both goals for the Colts in the loss.

In Sarnia, Vincent Trocheck had two goals and two assists as the Plymouth Whalers beat the Sarnia Sting 5-2, sweeping the Sting from the playoffs. Mitchell Heard added two goals and an assist in the win. Garrett Meurs also scored. Tom Wilson and Connor Carrick added two assists each for the Whalers. Bryan Moore and Nickolas Latta scored for Sarnia in the loss. Charles Sarault and Reid Boucher each had two assists for Sarnia. Sting goaltender J.P. Anderson stopped 43 shots.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Ryan Sproul scored in the final minute of the first overtime period to give the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds a 1-0 win over the Owen Sound Attack. The series now sits tied at two games apiece. Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray stopped 36 shots for the shutout. Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 41 shots in the loss.

Thursday’s action in the OHL includes:

  • Guelph vs. Kitchener (7 p.m.)
  • Niagara vs. Oshawa (7 p.m.)
  • Saginaw vs. London (7:11 p.m.)
  • Sudbury vs. Brampton (7:30 p.m.)
