OHL Roundup: Light night of playoff action

Monday night was a light night in the Ontario Hockey League with just three games on the playoff schedule. In Sault Ste. Marie, Nick Cousins scored a pair of goals as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Owen Sound Attack 5-3.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Nick Cousins scored a pair of goals as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Owen Sound Attack 5-3. With the win, the Greyhounds trail their Western Conference quarter-final series 2-1. Ryan Sproul had three assists in the win. David Broll added a pair of assists. Brandon Alderson, Michael Schumacher and Darnell Nurse also scored. Gemel Smith scored twice for Owen Sound. Kyle Hope also scored in the loss.

In Kingston, Mitchell Theoret had two goals and an assist as the Barrie Colts beat the Kingston Frontenacs 4-2. Mark Scheifele added a goal and an assist while Andreas Athanasiou also scored for the Colts. Mikko Vainonen and Ryan Kujawinski scored for Kingston in the loss. The Colts now have a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarter-final series.

In Sarnia, the Plymouth Whalers took a 3-0 series lead over the Sarnia Sting thanks to a 5-2 win on Monday night. Stefan Noesen had a goal and two assists for Plymouth. Ryan Hartman and Rickard Rakell had a pair of goals each for the Whalers in the win. Anthony DeAngelo and Nickolas Latta scored for Sarnia in the loss.

On Tuesday, five games are on the schedule:

  • Guelph vs. Kitchener (7 p.m.) – Kitchener leads series 2-0
  • Mississauga vs. Belleville (7 p.m.) – Belleville leads series 2-1
  • Niagara vs. Oshawa (7 p.m.) – Oshawa leads series 2-0
  • Saginaw vs. London (7:11 p.m.) – London leads series 2-0
  • Sudbury vs. Brampton (I7:30 p.m.) – Series tied at one
