OHL Roundup: Final weekend of regular season opens

Friday night opened the final weekend of the Ontario Hockey League regular season with eight games on the schedule. In Kingston, Stephen Pierog scored at 3:12 of overtime to give the Peterborough Petes a 5-4 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.

In Kingston, Stephen Pierog scored at 3:12 of overtime to give the Peterborough Petes a 5-4 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. Pierog scored a pair of goals in the win. Nick Ritchie and Nick Czinder added a goal and an assist each in the win. Brett Findlay also scored for the Petes. Eric Cornel, Greg Betzold and Stephen Nosad had two assists each for Peterborough. Billy Jenkins and Ryan Kujawinski had a goal and an assist each for the Frontenacs in the loss. Cody Alcock and Darcy Greenaway also scored.

In Sarnia, Artur Gavrus scored the winning goal 2:01 into the third period as the Owen Sound Attack beat the Sarnia Sting 4-3. Gavrus had a pair of goals in the win for the Attack. Steven Janes and Brayden Rose also scored for the Attack. Chris Bigras set up a pair of goals for Owen Sound. Davis Brown, Bryan Moore and Nickolas Latta scored for the Sting in the loss.

In Saginaw, John Gibson stopped 37 shots as the Kitchener Rangers beat the Saginaw Spirit 7-1. Matt Puempel scored three times for the Rangers in the win while Joshua Leivo added two goals and an assist. Tobias Rieder set up three goals in the win. Curtis Meighan and Derek Schoenmakers also scored for the Rangers. Even McEneny and Ryan Murphy set up two goals each in the win. Jimmy Lodge had the lone goal for the Spirit in the loss.

In Brampton, Matt MacLeod had three goals and an assist as the Brampton Battalion beat the Barrie Colts 5-3. Patrik Machac added a goal and three assists in the win. Barclay Goodrow also scored in the win. Blake Clarke had three assists for the Battalion. Aaron Ekblad, Ryan O’Connor and Steven Beyers scored for Barrie in the loss.

In Guelph, Cody McNaughton scored at 2:36 of overtime to give the Guelph Storm a 2-1 win over the Erie Otters. Storm goaltender Garret Sparks stopped 40 shots in the win. Scott Kosmachuk also scored for the Storm. Jimmy McDowell scored for the Otters in the loss.

In Mississauga, Malcolm Subban stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Belleville Bulls blanked the Mississauga Steelheads 3-0. Jake Cardwell and Daniil Zharkov had a goal and an assist each for Belleville. Brendan Gaunce also scored for the Bulls. Spencer Martin stopped 18 shots for the Steelheads.

In Ottawa, Lucas Lessio had the shootout winner as the Oshawa Generals beat the Ottawa 67’s 6-5. Michael Dal Colle had a goal and an assist in the win for the Generals. Lessio, Scott Sabourin, Justice Dundas and Aram Lloyd also scored for the Generals. Ryan Van Stralen had two goals and an assist for the 67’s in the loss. Joseph Blandisi chipped in with three assists for Ottawa. Connor Brown, Sean Monahan and Taylor Davis also scored in the loss.

In Sudbury, Brody Silk set up four goals as the Sudbury Wolves beat the Niagara IceDogs 5-1. Nicholas Baptiste scored a pair of goals for the Wolves while Michael Kantor and Mathew Campagna chipped in with a goal and an assist each. Jacob Harris also scored. Jordan Maletta had the lone goal for the IceDogs in the loss.
