BANTAM B WILDCATS

*************************
Jalen Gagnon's second goal of the championship game, with 49 seconds left in regulation time, lifted the Sault's Bantam B Wildcats to a 3-2 victory over the Ingersoll Ice Sunday afternoon at the Barrie Sharkfest.

Kayla Stevenson scored the Sault's other goal.

Gagnon was named MVP of the championship game.

"Jalen was snakebitten all weekend so it was nice to see a couple go in for her tonight," quipped head coach Jeremy Stevenson. "But the whole team contributed to this championship. Every kid. We had a short bench and the girls were tired, but this group just seems to have that will to win. You can't teach that."

The Wildcats went undefeated in round robin action and earned their way into the championship game with a 2-0 semi-final victory over the Ayr Rockets.

Madison Vernelli and Jaz Pitawanakwat handled the scoring.

Jana Caughill posted the shutout in goal.

On Friday, the Wildcats kicked off the Sharkfest with a 1-1 tie against the host Barrie Sharks.

Vernelli scored the lone Sault goal.

On Friday night, Stevenson and Halle Maclachlan tallied in a 2-1 win over Cambridge.

Saturday saw the Bantam Cats blank the Orangeville Tigers 2-0 on goals by Stevenson and Gagnon and a shutout from Caughill.

Saturday's nightcap was a 2-1 quarterfinal win over the Whitby Wolves with Vernelli and Stevenson doing the damage.

The Bantam B Wildcats also include Tyra Giasson, Breanna Hodkinson, Paige Simon, Sophie Thibault, MP Lecours, Jaydin Zack-Fabbro, Makayla Mazzuca, Kira Tangie and Logan Coccimiglio.
