52-inch musky pulled from river

Mike Beaupre of Raber, Michigan (about 30 miles south of the Sault) has a very big fish in his freezer.

Last week, Beaupre pulled a 52-inch, 37-1/2-pound musky out of the St. Mary's River.

"I didn't really realize how big it was until I tried to get it out of the hole," he told the Soo Evening News.

The fish is almost double the minimum entry weight used by the State of Michigan in its Master Angler Program.

However, it falls short of the 'Superfish' category as defined by Musky Hunter magazine.

A 2001 article in that magazine set the standard for a super muskie at 50 pounds or 55 inches.

Beaupre is keeping his monster musky in his freezer for now, until he decides on a taxidermist to mount it.
