*************************** Government of Canada invests to create jobs in Northern Ontario's Francophone communities

SUDBURY - The Honourable Tony Clement, minister for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of $68,500 to increase entrepreneurial opportunities in Northern Ontario’s official language minority communities (OLMC) for Francophones who have immigrated to Canada from other countries.

“The Government of Canada is working hard to create the right conditions for businesses to grow and communities to thrive,” said Minister Clement. “This project will help provide Francophone immigrants with the tools they need to start and successfully operate their businesses, and in the process create jobs in Northern Ontario.”

The project announced today is funded by FedNor through the Economic Development Initiative (EDI), a Government of Canada initiative to encourage sustainable economic growth in OLMCs.

The funding will allow the Réseau de développement économique et d’employabilité de l’Ontario (RDÉE Ontario) to train and mentor Francophone immigrants on various business start-up activities such as business planning and market research.

"This funding will help more Francophone immigrants to successfully start their own business in Northern Ontario, a challenge that requires training focused on business management and support for starting and operating a business,” said Mr. Laframboise, president of RDÉE Ontario. "This FedNor support will allow the RDÉE Ontario to equip Francophone immigrants with the necessary tools to create and maintain businesses and be effective in the world of business.”

FedNor supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
