The fates of St. Theresa and St. John Catholic Schools are now under review for further discussion and future planning.

At it's meeting last night, Huron Superior Catholic District School Board trustees voted to place the two schools under review.

Though being put under review doesn’t necessarily mean the schools will be closed, that is an option.

In accordance with standard practices, the Board decided to form an Accommodation Review Committee for each school to determine which of the following three options is best, or if another option should be considered.

- School(s) will continue to operate in the present format

- School(s) will operate under a revised format

- School(s) will be closed or consolidated

The Board has set four public meetings in order to discuss the futures of the two schools and allow for public input into the matter.

The first public meeting is scheduled for December 8 at 7 p.m. at St. Theresa School.

The second meeting will be in the new year.

The four public meetings are expected to be completed by early April with the final report being presented to Board trustees later in the month.

The Board is expected to vote on the Accommodation Review Committee and staff recommendations in mid-June.

Last night, the Board also indicated that the site for a planned new Catholic secondary school has been selected but will not be released until negotiations for the land have concluded.

Board Director John Stadnyk said the Board is still in negotiations for the land.

The Board also announced that ground-breaking will take place in the spring at St. Francis School on Brookfield Ave.

The French-immersion school will be getting three new classrooms added to the north end of the facility.

The school underwent extensive renovations in 2008.
