NEWS RELEASE

ALGOMA RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY HOSPICE

************************** The Algoma Residential Community Hospice would like to thank everyone involved in making the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign an overwhelming success this year.

Smiles were plentiful at ARCH this week when the owners from the local Tim Hortons restaurants presented ARCH with a cheque for $23,720.

This was a result of the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign that was held in September for one week in conjunction with ARCH’s 3rd anniversary.

Tim Hortons has always been very supportive of ARCH since it opened in 2008 and for that we are grateful.

Smile Cookies are chocolate chunk cookies with an iced on smiley face that are sold for $1 each.

It is a very unique and generous fundraiser as 100 percent of the proceeds go to ARCH, keeping all money local.

The Smile Cookie Campaign is one of the top fundraisers for the hospice and is quite significant since ARCH has to raise $600,000 - $700,000 each year for operating costs.

Smile Cookies certainly help ARCH financially, but even more so, they help raise awareness since there are still many people that are not familiar with ARCH.

ARCH is a 10-bed home-like setting for palliative individuals with approximately three months or less to live.

There is no cost to the resident to stay at ARCH.

Each resident has their own room with accommodations for up to two people to stay overnight if desired.

Nurses and personal support workers provide care 24 hours a day and are available to the residents and their families.

Meals are provided for residents at any time of day or night; there are no set meal times as we try to accommodate the residents’ personal schedules, which often change day to day depending on how they are feeling.

A frequently asked question is: “If a loved one is dying, how do we get them into ARCH?”

The answer: A referral can be made through CCAC (Community Care Access Centre) by any doctor.

Asking for an ARCH referral is not a commitment.

The choice is yours.

If questions arise around admission to hospice, please call ARCH at 705-942-1556 and speak to Lisa Rowlinson R.N. C.H.P.C.N.(C) or Jennifer MacLeod R.N. B.SCN.

A sincere thank you to John McLellan, Tim Hortons regional marketing manager, the local Tim Hortons owners, staff, and customers for your dedication and support toward ARCH.

Thank you also to the individuals and businesses that bought cookies.

Without your support, ARCH could not provide the services we do.
