The local Operation Red Nose campaign is rolling.

In conjunction with the local police and St. Johns Ambulance, Operation Red Nose, which runs in numerous communities across the country, is used to encourage responsible behaviour (in a non-judgmental manner) with regard to impaired driving by enabling communities to provide a free and confidential chauffeur service to their members.

Locally, Operation Red nose is currently accepting applications for volunteers.

Operation Red Nose teams consist of three people, an escort driver, a volunteer driver and a navigator.

Of the team members, two drive with the client in the client’s vehicle while another member follows the vehicle to pick up the other team members.

For those interested in volunteering with Operation Red Nose, volunteer forms can be picked up at Home Hardware and the St Johns Ambulance training centre at 116 Industrial Park Crescent.

Run during the Christmas season, Operation Red Nose officially opens locally on Nov. 25th and runs from Thursday through Saturday nights, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. during the holiday season.

Successful campaigns in recent years in Sudbury and North Bay prompted St. Johns Ambulance to bring the campaign to Sault Ste. Marie and is looking into expanding to Timmins in the future.
