Taoist Tai Chi is used as a way to maintain health and well-being for people of all ages.

The local branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada held a demonstration at the Station Mall late on Friday afternoon leading into an open house held on Saturday.

Beginners classes begin this week with a pair of classes being offered, the first being on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. along with a morning class at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The beginners class introduces members to the 108 movements of the Tai Chi set, which generally takes roughly three months to be fully introduced to.

Following the completion of the beginners class, members move up to the continuing class, which allows for practice of the 108 movements as well as exploring the health benefits of Tai Chi.

The Sault Ste. Marie branch also offers a health recovery class that allows those people looking to participate who have special health needs.
