NEWS RELEASE

SAULT YOUTH ASSOCIATION

************************* To all members of our community:

An exciting and pivotal time has come for Sault Ste. Marie.

On October 25 and 26, 2011, the Sault Youth Association will be hosting the Mobilizing Community for Youth Conference at the Marconi Club.

Here we will have the opportunity to create real, positive advancements in the quality of life for youth in our city.

Through extensive research and the collection of honest concerns and real experiences of over five hundred Sault youth under the age of 29, the Sault Youth Association has identified four areas in which youth are seeking dramatic change: substance abuse and mental health; the creation of a youth hub; sustainable housing for youth; and economic well-being.

There is no question what needs to be done; our youth have earnestly spoken and now it is our responsibility as a community to respond.

Guest speakers, with their extensive knowledge and expertise in youth services and programs, will plant the seeds we need for visible, viable change.

Speakers include Les Voakes, the executive director of TYPS Youth Centres Canada; Lynn Daly, the executive director of the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre in Toronto; Erica MacBeth, inspirational speaker and representative from the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre; and Steve Cordes, executive director of Youth Opportunities Unlimited in London, Ontario.

Registration is free or by donation.

More information is available at saultyouthassociation.com

This is a chance for all members of our community to speak their mind in the presence of community leaders and real makers of change.

This opportunity cannot be missed.

It is not only about today’s youth, but the future of this unique northern town.

Sincerely,

David Viitala

Youth Empowerment Strategist Director Sault Youth Association
