*************************** Joint forces investigation results in marijuana seizure

SAULT STE. MARIE - A Royal Canadian Mounted Police-led joint forces investigation, including members of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, has resulted in the arrest of two males for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers made the arrests at a boat launch located on Pine Island in Tarbutt Township on the afternoon of October 19, 2011.

Police seized 4.7 kgs (10.5 lbs) of freshly harvested marijuana.

The two males, aged 59 and 46 both from Sault Ste. Marie, were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court on November 28, 2011.

Marijuana grow operations pose a threat to our communities.

Where they exist, there is a potential for an increase in criminal activity and violence.

Police are reminding the public to continue to report any suspicious activity that they observe to their local police service or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
