During a press conference at the Essar Centre today, Pierre Charette, president of the World Curling Players’ Association, outlined team highlights and schedule specifics for the upcoming GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling.

With representatives from the Sault's own Team Jacobs present, Charette was happy to announce a special six-pack ticket opportunity for supporters of Brad Jacobs and his teammates.

The Jacobs six-pack includes tickets to five round robin games featuring Team Jacobs and one ticket to the final match-up for only $90 tax included.

"We've played all these guys a lot over the years, and we know that the biggest competition is ourselves," Jacobs told SooToday.com. "We don't even really look at them as the guys we're playing against. We have to curl at 90 percent and that's what we're going to focus on."

Team Jacobs now ranked 10th in the world

SAULT STE. MARIE - The GP Car and Home World Cup of Curling will take place November 2-6, 2011 at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and will feature 18 of the world’s best men’s curling teams competing for the World Cup of Curling, Capital One Cup points, $100,000 in prize money, and valuable qualifying points towards a berth into the 2013 Olympic trials.

“This is the start of the road to the 2014 Olympics in Russia,” said Pierre Charette, president of the World Curling Players’ Association. “All the slam teams know this is the first event where they can earn significant qualifying points towards securing a berth at the 2013 Canadian Olympic trials.”

The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling events are closely tied to the Canadian Curling Association's qualifying process for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

CBC Sports will broadcast nine hours of live playoff coverage of the 2011 GP Car and Home World Cup from the Essar Centre.

“Nine hours of national television coverage is tremendous exposure for our community," said Ian Fisher, chair of the local organizing committee. “This is a fantastic opportunity for all Soo area curlers and curling fans to come out and see the best players in the world and break out the moose calls for Team Jacobs.”

Held annually since 2001-02, the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling is a series of four elite international events providing the largest prize purse in curling, $670,000.

“We are excited to be launching the 2011 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling in the Sault Ste. Marie,” said Kevin Albrecht, CEO, iSport Media and Management. “This will be the best curling field that has ever competed in the Soo and with Team Jacobs now ranked 10th in the world, local fans will be able to see Brad and his team compete against the best in the world.”

Last season, Team Kevin Martin (Edmonton, Alberta) won the Swiss Chalet National and an unprecedented 7th GP Car and Home Players’ Championship on his way to capturing the prestige year end Capital One Cup and the $50,000 bonus that goes along with it.

Martin has won 17 major titles in his illustrious career, one more than tennis superstar Roger Federer and only one behind golf’s legendary Jack Nicklaus for the most major victories in any sport.
