The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians could be opening a new casino downstate.

Media reports indicate Tribe officials have been negotiating with the City of Lansing to open a gaming outlet in the Michigan capital's downtown area.

The casino would have up to 300 slots and open in 2012.

It's believed the business would employ 1,000 people.

Construction would provide another 300 jobs.

Kewadin Casinos, owned and operated by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, currently operate in five locations, including the Michigan Soo.
