Province invests in 30 additional internship and co-op placements in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE - The province is investing an additional $573,451 so that more youth are ready for the job market after completing internships and co-op placements in Sault Ste. Marie, David Orazietti MPP announced today.

"This provincial investment will help Sault Ste. Marie's youth secure future opportunities in the community while also providing a boost to our local economy," said Orazietti. "We recognize the importance of helping young people gain practical work experience so they are better prepared to contribute to the workforce and achieve a higher standard of living."

Employers in Sault Ste. Marie are receiving a total of $573,451 for 30 internship and co-op placements.

Some of the local employers offering youth internships include organizations that include Algoma Family Services, Meadow Park Montessori School Inc., Fibrestick MFG Ltd., KPMG and Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie.

Since launching the program in 2005, the Ontario government has provided more than $4.9 million for 277 placements in Sault Ste. Marie.

Under the province’s Youth Internship and Co-op Program, students are learning important skills that will one day help them work in diverse fields, such as television production, nursing, accounting, engineering and information technology.

Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOFHC), this workplace training program provides a wage subsidy to help Northern employers invest in training young people, supporting them as they build their careers and prepare for future opportunities in the North.
