Possibility of water supply issues on hill next week

************************* Notice to PUC water customers

In conjunction with construction of Third Line west of Great Northern Road through the Fort Creek ravine, PUC will be undertaking a significant construction project during the week of August 22.

A new 24-inch transmission water main will be connected to the existing 24-inch main within the construction area.

There are two connections involved and the total project is expected to take approximately four days to complete.

Throughout the duration of this work, the water supply to the “hill area” of the city (roughly the area east of Peoples Road, north of MacDonald Avenue, and west of Black Road - see attached map for more detail - high resolution is available here) known as Pressure Zone 2, will be exposed to an increased level of vulnerability.

Although PUC has several backup systems in place, the higher level of vulnerability is unavoidable.

These connections are necessary in order to complete construction of Third Line and the work must proceed starting August 22.

While PUC does not anticipate there will be any negative impact to customers, it is advisable that PUC water customers living in the hill area be aware that a potential Boil Water Advisory situation or a water shortage situation could occur.

Should a contingency occur during the course of the construction, there will be limited opportunity to provide advance notice to customers, if any at all.

Updates on the status of this project will be issued through the course of the work.

Unless we experience a failure of critical equipment during the construction project, customers should not see any change in their water service.
