************************* Female victim removed from fire – pronounced deceased at Sault Area Hospital

On the 19th of May at 5:11 a.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to assist Sault Fire Services with a fire at 606 Wellington Street East, a four-unit residential building.

Emergency Medical Services removed one female victim from one of the apartments and she was transported to Sault Area Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police are attempting to locate and notify the victim’s next of kin.

The fire is under investigation and there are no further details to release at this time.

Wellington Street East from Pilgrim Street to Elgin Street was initially closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

One lane of traffic has now been opened.
