NEWS RELEASE

MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

************************* Northeast Region

April 29, 2011

No new fires were reported in the Northeast Region since Monday, April 25.

Due to the recent precipitation, the fire hazard throughout the region is currently low.

More rain is forecast for the region on Sunday, May 1 which will keep the hazard low.

During spring clean-up of broken branches or other wood debris on your property; chipping, composting or taking material to a landfill is much safer than burning.

Burning is hazardous because the surrounding grass and forest fuels dry out quickly and can cause your fire to burn out of control.

If you live within a municipality, contact your local municipal office or fire department BEFORE burning.

Report forest fires using the toll-free fire reporting number: 310-FIRE (3473).
