NEWS RELEASE

BRYAN HAYES CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE SAULT STE. MARIE & AREA

**************************** Tony Martin needs to explain his record on supporting our troops

SAULT STE. MARIE - Tony Martin has stated publicly that he supports our troops.

Actions often speak louder than words.

Tony needs to explain why he has shamelessly continued to vote against essential equipment to help them effectively and safely defend the freedom of our country.

While he says one thing, his voting records show a very different story.

Tony Martin voted 'no' to the following initiatives for our Canadian Forces:

- Sustained funding to the troops (Budget 2008)

- Salary increase for armed forces in the field (Budget 2007)

- Veterans Bill of Rights and Veterans Ombudsman

- $2.8 Billion for Canadian Forces bases

- CC-177 Airlift support so our troops won’t have to catch a ride with the US

- Providing increased support for injured Forces personnel and their families

- Improving long-term disability insurance for our troops

- Purchasing tanks, armour personnel carriers, helicopters and ships for our troops

The priorities of the Sault and area are shown loud and clear by the hundreds of yellow ribbons that adorn doors, trees and bumpers.

Our community proudly stands behind our men and women in the Canadian Forces and we are thankful for their tremendous commitment to our country and our freedom.

“If elected, I will not only continue to be vocal in my support for our troops, but I will put those words into action by standing up proudly in the House of Commons to support legislation providing our men and women in uniform with the equipment and services they need to do their jobs and to protect the freedom of our country,” said Bryan Hayes, Conservative candidate for the Sault Ste. Marie and area.

The Conservative record speaks for itself - over the last five years, we have provided long overdue equipment, protection, health care investments, and we have significantly improved our security domestically and abroad.

Our troops are risking their lives every day.

Canadians want them to come home safely.

The best way to ensure their safe return is to provide them with the tools they need to do their job.

Only the Conservative Party of Canada has a proven track record of delivering for our troops.

In this election, the choice is clear. Sault Ste. Marie needs a voice in Ottawa that stands up for our men and women in uniform.

Only a vote for Bryan Hayes, the Conservative candidate, will ensure we have a strong voice in Ottawa that not only says he supports our troops, but puts action into words when it really matters.
