The body of an Eastern Upper Peninsula soldier killed in Afghanistan last weekend is expected to arrive in the United States sometime today.

Army Specialist Christopher T. Griffin was among eight Americans and two Afghans who died under a barrage of Taliban fire on a U.S. military outpost in Nuristan province. The attackers struck with mortars, rockets and heavy-calibre machine guns.

Griffin is from Kincheloe and graduated from Rudyard High School in 2004.

According to news reports, the Kinross Township Board will name a street after Griffin, provide a cemetery plot and honour him through a memorial.
