Police plan crackdown on rail bridge shenanigans

****************************** The Canadian National Police Service contacted City Police yesterday regarding a report from a witness who was walking on Whitefish Island on the evening of the 6th of August around 8:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., who observed several teenage males running along a train that had just stopped on the swing/ train bridge over Whitefish Island under the International Bridge.

The youths were also observed jumping between the cars.

City Police would like to advise the public that any individuals playing on trains or in the area of trains and railway tracks are risking their own lives and those of others by their actions.

This is not only very dangerous, but also illegal as they are trespassing.

Trespassing can include: - Playing, walking, and running on or beside railroad tracks.

- Driving a bike, car, ATV, snowmobile or any other vehicle on or beside railroad tracks.

- Taking a short-cut across railroad tracks or railroad property.

- Entering railroad yards at any time.

The Canadian National Police as well as the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be monitoring this area and charges will be laid for any trespassers that are found.
