CANADA POST EMPLOYEES AND MANAGEMENT IN SAULT STE. MARIE AND AREA

************************* Local Canada Post goes postal for cancer!

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - March 27, 2008 - Canada Post employees in Sault Ste. Marie are ramping up for their very own campaign to help raise much needed funds in support of cancer care and research.

“Going Postal” will run throughout the month of April, coinciding with cancer month.

It is supported by both Canada Post employees and management.

Canada Post Area Manager Pino Caputo states: “I am extremely proud of the staff of the Sault post office and the challenge that they have decided to undertake. Unfortunately cancer has touched some of our staff members, families and friends and 'Going Postal for Cancer' is a great way to support them. We have over 30 employees interested in participating.”

And participating they are!

Employees will be collecting pledges in support of the campaign throughout the entire month.

And with some employees on the street everyday, Caputo feels it will “enhance the efforts of our fundraising initiative. Our carriers are well known by their customers and this will make providing a donation easier for our community.”

Of the 30 participating employees, 15 have agreed to shave their heads in support of the cause and to encourage donations.

This “hair shedding” ceremony will take place on April 30, at 4 p.m. at the main post office on Queen Street.

And to encourage the “team,” Caputo has offered a “day off” to the employee that has collected the most funds by April 30.

The community can expect to see support from all the postal outlets in the Sault Area as well.

Each of them will be housing a “Going Postal” collection canister!

Campaign organizer and Canada Post employee Ken Sheaves and his family have been working hard in preparation of the campaign launch on April 1.

The Sheaves family was touched personally by the devastation of cancer when their young son Justin was diagnosed last year.

“It has been quite a year for our family, but we are so appreciative for the continued support of the Canadian Cancer Society,” comments Ken. “Now, we feel it is important to give back to ensure that resources are available for the next family that needs them and that crucial research is supported so that further advancements can be made to help our loved ones beat this!”

And so, the Sheaves Family is paying it forward - with the help of Ken’s colleagues!

To make a donation, please look for participating Canada Post employees who will be sporting the "Going Postal" button, or stop in at a postal outlet in the Sault area.

Any donation over $20 will be receipted by the Canadian Cancer Society upon completion of the campaign.
